Our Krav Maga Beginner Classes/Seminars are held at our studio, located less than 10 minutes from the center of Burlington. MA. These training sessions aim to introduce you to the framework of concepts and principles that provide the foundation for the Krav Maga approach to self-defense. Rather than being restricted to a fixed, syllabus of techniques, Krav Maga uses a set of fighting principles to guide and develop its solutions to violence e.g., techniques should be based on natural instinctive movements and be able to be performed when fatigued, and when under the stress and duress of a real-life confrontation i.e., when in a physically sub-optimal state etc. The structure of the seminar, resembles that of an actual class, where participants take part in “fighting games”, striking drills, and then practice techniques against unarmed and armed attacks and threats, with various progressions added in e.g., the “attacker” changing their attack in response to a defense/escape being made etc. This format allows prospective students to experience a “regular” class in a slower, more controlled manner, whilst having the Krav Maga training methodology explained to them.
These are not simply physical sessions where techniques are trained without any situational aspect but ones where context is given to the types of violence you may have to face e.g., how street robberies actually occur, how to recognize when a mugger is going to use a knife, how to overcome a reluctance to perform a technique when you are called on to do so etc. In short, how to get self-defense and Krav Maga to work in real-life scenarios. It is this aspect of training, which makes Krav Maga Yashir, unique from other methods of self-defense and martial arts i.e., you can train every technique/solution to perfection in a studio setting, but if you haven’t trained it in context, and with the situational aspects that will be present (such as your emotional state etc.), you are simply training choreographed movements that can’t be replicated outside the training environment.
These introductory Krav Maga seminars are 60 minutes in length, and are a mix of physical drills and techniques, along with explanations of why Krav Maga is practiced in the way it is – many people think that Krav Maga is about the techniques, but it also has a distinct training/teaching methodology, that is aimed at getting practitioners prepared and ready to deal with real-life violence in the shortest possible time. These beginner classes are suitable for both men and women, 18-years or older, and don’t require any previous experience. Although 60-minutes in length physical fitness shouldn’t be an issue as the drills and technique practice is broken up into physically manageable chunks. The cost of the seminar is $25 and is held at the location below (there is ample on-site parking). You can use the form below to sign up.
